Over the past four years, I’ve been drawn away from oil painting to trying out colored pencils. My initial reason was that it was difficult using oil paints around small children. My little ones loved to “help” me with my paintings, and proceeded to getting oils over everything!
However, the more I tried out colored pencils, the more in love I became with them. I’m also dappling with watercolors, however, my focus is completely on colored pencils.
The pencils I use are Faber-Castell Polychromos and Caran d’Arache Luminance. These are oil-based pencils that apply smoothly. It takes at least 4-6 layers to cover the picture the way I like it, and I blend the colors together, as if I were painting.
I’ve only started taking on commissions this past week. It’s an amazing feeling to bring other peoples’ animals to life in my drawings.
